For the budget
traveler who wants to be close to the sea and
Arcadia nightlife, this is the hotel of choice,
if only you can find it. Academia Holoda is
incredibly difficult to find. It is located
in a brown tiled building, the actual entrance
is located through a door in the back of a 24
hour small grocery store.
The hotel is located 10-15 minutes from public
transportation. Older but well maintained furniture
with bright wide corridors.

At one time, a visitor to
this hotel can imagine that this was an elegant
hotel. Today Arcadia is in desperate need of
repair. Very old dingy bathrooms and old furniture
in all of the rooms greet the guest.

Conveniently, located ten
minutes walk from the train station, the eleven
story hotel, built in the 1970's, is similar
in appearance to the block Soviet era apartment
blocks in the Odessa suburbs.
Request a room on the 10th to 11th floor to
have a fabulous view of downtown Odessa. Half
the cost of the Oktyabrskaya hotel, the same
price as the two-star Victoria hotel, and three
to four times less expensive than the Kempinksi
and Londonskaya, CherNoye More Hotel is the
BEST BARGAIN for your money of hotels within
the 3-5 star range.

Located in
the port of Odessa, the ultra-modern Kempinski
(Hotel Odessa) looks out of place among the
older 19th century buildings in the center.
It is Odessa's only five star hotel, and unlike
other Ukrainian hotels, it's star rating is
legitimate and deserved.
It is the preferred hotel of embassy personal
visiting Odessa.
Kempinski has a Japanese Mediterranean and Italian
Restaurant. Every room has a black sea view.
The restaurant on the top floor offers a unique
and breath taking view of both the center and
entire port.
The business center offers secretarial and translation
service. The hotel has its own water supply
and electrical generator.

Kolyba hotel and restaurant
is made entirely of expensive wood, making it
the most unique hotel in Odessa. In fact, referring
to Kolyba as a "hotel" seems improper. While
in Kolyba you get the sense you are deep in
the Carpathians in a remote and cozy hunting
lodge. Kolyba staff are 'five star', providing
a level of service which is unfortunately rare
in even some of the best hotels in Odessa. Kolyba
restaurant continues the hunting lodge theme
with many stuffed animals, including two large
bear skins. The only drawback to Kolyba are
the rooms themselves, a guest feels as if they
are on a camping trip, Not in a three star hotel.
The rooms are small and dark. The bedroom is
in the loft, reached by an awkward narrow spiral
staircase.

Named Krasnaya
(meaning "Red" in Russian) hotel because it
was built with light red sandstone. It was built
in 1898, by Alexander Bernardacci, whose family
immigrated to Russia from Switzerland. Bernardacci
was born in Russia but immigrated to Odessa
in 1878. The hotel is a combined renaissance
and baroque style. Krasnaya is located across
the street from the famous philharmonic theater.
The building is grand, with Baroque classical
statues and marble white columns facing the
boulevard. It was fully renovated in 1995. Krasnaya
has two restaurants, a Chinese and Mexican restaurant.
The Chinese restaurant is has a splendid, with
marble columns and a multi-colored ceiling.
The foyer and hallways are elegant, but the
rooms are small, making this hotel seem exorbitantly
overpriced.

Londonskya was built in 1867,
it's facade is decorated in a early renaissance
style. The hotel is located in the historical
"seafront district". The building is an architectural
monument. During the Soviet Union, Londonskya
was the official "intourist" hotel for foreigners
visiting Odessa. Londonskya was remodeled in
1988. Londonskaya has a charming courtyard restaurant,
spacious foyer, and elegant hallways. But unfortunately,
the rooms are small, and although the bathrooms
have recently been remodeled, the rooms are
Not what a visitor would expect of a four-star
hotel.

Mozart is a new hotel across
the street from the Odessa opera theater. The
rooms are luxuriant and spacious, with Austrian
furniture in every suite. Staff service is superb.
Between Mozart and Londonskaya, the other four
star hotel in Odessa, Mozart is Recommended.

Oktyabrskaya was once the
preferred hotel of the communist party. The
building was built in 1909-1910 in the Art Nouveau
style by the architect M.I. Linetsky. Oktyabrskaya
is a bright yellow building, the entrance to
Oktyabrskaya is from the back, there is No foyer.
The location is conveniently 10 minutes walk
to the center, but Oktyabrskaya is located on
one of the busiest streets in Odessa, a guest
next to the street would have a difficult time
sleeping. The view from all of the rooms is
of the road or of the parking lot. The furniture
is new, but the rooms are rather small.

Orion is located in a poor
location, on the far South side of Odessa. It
is twenty minutes walk to public transportation,
which is dark and potentially dangerous to traverse
in the evening. It is five to ten minute walk
to the beach. Orion has a stripped concrete
exterior. The lobby is a very huge foreboding
marble chamber, which is cold in the winter.
Check in is made in a large dark room with one
desk lamp. In the standard rooms, the only beds
are pull out couches. Orion's only selling point
is its big balconies overlooking the black sea.

Passaj is a favorite of backpackers
and budget tourists. It's location is superb.
Built before the revolution, the hotel has large
vaulted ceilings, large corridors, and spacious
rooms. The view from the rooms of central Odessa
is excellent.

This huge ugly concrete building
is located behind one of the most popular year
round dance clubs in Odessa, the saucer shaped
"Cosmos". There is usually only one frustrated
receptionist to handle all of the customers.
The hotel is fairly ran down. The furniture
is old and there are No shower stall in the
old bathrooms.

Cheap, $3 a night cabins located
in the back of the hotel make Tourist the cheapest
hotel to sleep in Odessa. These cabins have
No bathrooms. The more expensive, $7 facilities,
are located in the two-story hotel itself. A
strange memorial plaque is on the right of the
hotel entrance: V.A. Molodtsov -Badaev The Hero
of the Soviet Union Leader of the guerrilla
fighters regiment

Tropical resort, is twenty
minutes from public transport, in Southern Odessa.
It is surrounded by expensive Nova "new" Ukrainian
houses (a Ukrainian nick name for the new, post-soviet
rich), and has a guarded gate. Ultra-modern
facilities and furniture. Tropical has a breath-taking
garden overlooking the sea, with an indoor and
outdoor restaurant.

Centralnaya has grand wide
hallways. The double rooms are very spacious,
but the single rooms have No hot water.

Poorest service of all of
the hotels in Odessa. Not Recommended.

Victoria, located ten minutes
from Arcadia beach, has remodeled rooms and
lobby, though the rooms are small.
Victoria is the preferred hotel of the American
agencies Peace Corps and Project Harmony.

At YuNost, all of the 100
rooms face the black sea, providing a magnificent
view from all room's balconies. Some of the
cheaper rooms share a shower, with No shower
stalls. Rooms are brightly lit and the furniture
is in good condition.
